Finding Arabic manuscripts in Special Collections

Here in the library we have an amazing collection of Arabic Manuscripts in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, which date as far back as the 9^th century. These manuscripts range in topic from religion to science and astrology. Most of these manuscripts are bound in leather wrappers and were hand-written in Arabic. The item pictured is a Hadith collection written in the 17^th century, bound in Gazelle leather. It once belonged to a Bedouin Sheikh. Each manuscript tells a different story through physical features like the scribe’s handwriting.

This guide provides descriptions of each manuscript, including call number, title and author in Arabic (as well as transliterated), the language it is written in, binding information, subject information, and date it was created.
