In Special Collections’ copy of Dante’s Divina Commedia (Brescia, 1487), a reader has inscribed this illustration of the entrance to hell with “Lassciate ogni spera(n)za voi ch’intrate” or “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.” The illustration has also been colored in by hand.IMG_0957
