19th Century Advertising by Mormon Women Part 1

On March 3rd, I gave a presentation at the Church History Symposium entitled “‘Her knowledge of business, and practical experience therein’: 19th Century Advertising by Mormon Women.” The presentation discussed examples of advertisements posted by women in Mormon newspapers, and also highlighted the other activities pursued by women. Starting today, and continuing until I run out of posts, I’m going to post a slide from my presentation each week. With only two exceptions, each of the items I post can be found in L. Tom Perry Special Collections. The first item comes from the Nauvoo Times and Seasons, and is the earliest ad by a Mormon woman that I could locate. You can access the Times and Seasons here (link opens to a Special Collections web collection).
