The Intercollegiate Knights at BYU

The Intercollegiate Knights is a national service fraternity.  It was established at the University of Washington in 1919 as the Knights of the Hook. In 1922 fraternity leaders approached the university administration and asked if they could charter a national organization.  Permission was granted and the Knights of the Hook became the Intercollegiate Knights.  In 1941 a chapter of the Intercollegiate Knights was formed at Brigham Young University.

Intercollegiate Knights--Lighting the Y

The Gold Y Chapter has responsibility for lighting the Y during homecoming week, graduation and Y days.  It also protects the statuary around campus and at LaVell Edwards Stadium during Blue & White week.  The chapter also sponsors bi-weekly service activities.

The Brigham Young University Archives is the home to the records of both the national organization of the Intercollegiate Knights and the Gold Y chapter.  The national chapter records offer a glimpse into the workings of a national fraternal organization while the Gold Y Chapter records provide a peek at student life at Brigham Young University.  Both collections are open to public research.
