New L. Tom Perry Exhibit

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections in the Harold B. Lee Library is pleased to announce the opening of a new permanent exhibition celebrating the life of its namesake—Elder L. Tom Perry. L. Tom Perry served as an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1974 until 2015.

Prior to his extensive church service, L. Tom Perry was a successful businessman. He enjoyed an especially close relationship with Sam Skaggs, chairman of the American Stores Company. A very generous donation from the Skaggs Foundation to Brigham Young University facilitated the construction of a new Special Collections library that opened in 1999. As a condition of the donation, Skaggs stipulated that the new Special Collections library be named after his close friend and business associate, L. Tom Perry.

The new exhibit, located in the entryway of the L. Tom Perry Special Collections, includes letters, photographs, and memorabilia from the life of Elder L. Tom Perry. Of special note are exhibit materials that highlight the friendship of L. Tom Perry and Sam Skaggs.

The exhibit is open during Special Collections business hours: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The public is welcome and admission is free. We hope you will take the opportunity to come and learn a little more about Elder L. Tom Perry.
