Celebrate Archives Month by getting your hands on some history. The Library’s L. Tom Perry Special Collections has a series of events lined up to connect people with history. All the events are free.

HOLD A 1ST EDITION BOOK OF MORMON

October 13 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm

Come to the Learning Commons area on the main floor of the library for your chance to examine and hold a 1st edition Book of Mormon. Curator Greg Seppi will be on hand to answer questions.

 

Cuneiform tablet - beer receipts

MAKE YOUR OWN CUNEIFORM TABLET

October 21 from 2:30 until 4:30 pm

Everyone is invited to visit the L. Tom Perry Special Collections in the Harold B. Lee Library to learn about the ancient writing system cuneiform. This open house will feature a display of 4,000-year-old cuneiform tablets, and a chance to try your hand at cuneiform with a lump of clay and a stick. The event will be in the Special Collections classroom (HBLL 1131) on the first floor of the Library. Admission is free. October 23 at 7:00 pm

A brother and sister buy an eerie seaside mansion on the Cornwall coast of England only to find out that there is more to the purchase than they had imagined. The home’s artist studio has a “spirit” all its own. Part of the BYU Motion Picture Archive Film Series. The Library auditorium doors open at 6:30, we recommend you arrive early.

 

Curious Items

SPOOKY AND STRANGE IN THE ARCHIVE

October 29 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm

Get in the “spirit” of Halloween and come visit the “spooky” Special Collections! Curators will dig up strange, bizarre or even macabre items from their collections stored in the vaults buried under the quad. HBLL 1130 on level 1 of the Harold B. Lee Library. If you are squeamish you should skip this one.
