Australia Statistics

This guide contains websites, government sites, and paid databases that have international statistical information. You may also do a subject search in the Library Catalog for categories such as economic statistics, demographic statistics, financial statistics, corporation statistics, and industry statistics. You can also search in the catalog for a specific country by putting the country name and then "statistics." For example, "Mexico statistics" or "China statistics."


Economic

  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
    This website is a great source to track statistics on economy, finance, demographics, company and industry, crime, health and inflation.
  • Department of Foreign Affairs
    This website contains country, economic, state and territory fact sheet for all the countries.
  • National Trade Data Bank (All Countries)
    The country commercial guides provide information for investors and exporters about other countries. This information includes economic and trade statistics, climate for investment, investment opportunities, political environment, guides to doing business in that country, etc. Click on the country that you want to view and a list of reports will appear.
  • Factiva(All Countries)
    This database allows you to search country reports on the economy, politics, investment climate, and career opportunities in the country. It includes OECD economic surveys.
  • GDP by Country (World Bank)
    This website gives GDP by each country.
  • OECD economic surveys (Online)
    This is a publication by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that gives economic information and statistics for its 30 country members. To see the full Australian Economic Survey in print go to Mgt/Econ/Gov Info reference area, call number HC 601 .O68x
  • United Nations Statistical Division (Country Members):
    The Statistics Division compiles statistics from many international sources and produces global updates. Information in this page includes GDP per capita, GDP by expenditure, GDP by economic sector and GNP statistics.
  • CIA Worldfactbook (All Countries)
    This provides a country-by-country listing of basic statistical and factual information. Economic statistical information for Australia includes GDP, Real GDP growth rate, per capita GDP, GDP Composition by sector, poverty line, household income, unemployment, inflation rate, public debt, commodity exports and imports, exchange rates, etc. These statistics are given for only one recent year.

    This database by the World Bank Group contains economic, financial, and demographic statistics for 226 countries.

    This website contains statistics for economy, finance, demographics, company and industry, crime, health and inflation.
  • International Monetary Fund
    Available in print in Mgt/Econ/Gov Information Reference Collection, call numbers HG 61 .I57 and HG 3881 .I626. These books, published by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), provide financial statistics by country.
  • Factiva
    This resource provides international banking statistics, consolidated banking statistics, and securities statistics.
  • Global Development Finance
    The World Banks' Global Development Finance database contains more than 200 debt and financial indicators for over 130 countries. This database allows you to graph several financial indicators for various years in the same chart. Some of the indicators include total debt stocks, total debt flows, long-term debt, interest payments, disbursements, debt ratios, currency composition of debt, etc.

    This database by the World Bank Group contains economic, financial, and demographic statistics for 226 countries.
  • Reserve Bank of Australia
    This website contains statistics for all banks and financial institutions in Australia.

  • UNESCO Institute for Statistics (Country Members)
    The UNESCO Institute for Statistics is the statistical branch of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO). It collects statistics on education, literacy, culture and communication, and science and technology. Once you access the webpage, you will see a section on the left panel called “statistics.” From this section you can access the database, statistical tables, country profiles, and fast facts.

    The Statistics Division compiles statistics from many international sources and produces global updates. Information in this page includes demographic statistics such as population, birth rates, mortality, marriage, health, education, etc.

    Population Reference Bureau is a resource for population information. Here you can browse the most comprehensive directory of population-related websites available — by organization, by region and country, or by topic within countries.
  • World Country and City Population Statistics
    This resource has population and land area statistics for nations and cities around the world. Many smaller cities are included. This resource also has links to international country’s statistical websites around the world (under the link tab).
  • City Populations (All Countries)
    This website contains population of main cities in the country.

  • Australia Crime: facts and Figures
    This website contains tables on violent crimes, crime rates, property crime, location crime and other crimes known to police.

  • Business & Company Resource Center (Gale)
    This database gives you information on Australian Companies including history, financials, rankings, and articles. Click on "Business and Company Resource Center", then click on "Company." In the "state/country" search box, type "Australia" and click "search." The companies will be listed by revenue in descending order. Click on the company's name to see more information on the company.
  • Factiva
    This database gives you company information such as financials, competitors, business description, contact information, stock prices and charts, histories, and articles on the company when this information is available. Click on the "Companies/Markets" tab. You can enter the name or the ticker symbol of the company and click "search." To see a list of companies in Australia, click on the "Companies/Markets" tab and then click on "Company Screening", click on "Location" then select "Australia and New Zealand" and select "Australia." Click on submit and you will see a list of companies in Australia. By clicking on the name of the company, a menu will appear for information on that company.

    This website is a business directory containing company profiles and contact information.

    This website contains statistical information on mining, construction, manufacturing, whole sale, retail trade, transport and storage and property and business services in Australia.
  • Australian Government: Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources
    This website contains statistical reports and information on the industries of Australia. It also contains a link to the Australian Government home page which includes budget documents since 1996 to present.
