Asia Statistics

This guide contains websites, government sites, and paid databases that have international statistical information. You may also do a subject search in the Library Catalog for categories such as economic statistics, demographic statistics, financial statistics, corporation statistics, and industry statistics. You can also search in the catalog for a specific country by putting the country name and then "statistics." For example, "Mexico statistics" or "China statistics."

  • Business Source Premier (EBSCO)
    Off Campus Access. This database allows you to search country reports on the economy, politics, investment climate, and careers of the country. Includes OECD economic surveys. Click on "Country Reports" and type the name of the country in the search box.
  • Northwestern University
    This Northwestern University page contains links to foreign government pages including links to the central banks and statistical pages of the countries.
  • Key Indicators
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HC 411 .A754a. This book published by Asian Development Bank provides statistical data on key economic indicators like GDP, Labor force, National accounts and Price Indexes.
  • Michigan University
    This Michigan University page also contains links to Asia and Asia Pacific, and the Middle Eastern Government home pages.
  • United Nations Online Network in Public Administration and Finance
    This website provides Statistical information on national economy, labor force, health, finance, education, security, GDP and other random statistics on different countries in Asia.
  • National Trade Data Bank - Country Commercial Guides (All countries)
    The country commercial guides provide information for investors and exporters about other countries. This information includes economic and trade statistics, climate for investment, investment opportunities, political environment, guides to doing business in that country, etc.
  • United Nations Statistical Division (Country members)
    The Statistics Division compiles statistics from many international sources and produces global updates. Information in this page includes GDP, GDP per capita, by expenditure, be economic sector, etc. and GNP statistics.
  • CIA World Factbook
    Provides a country by country listing of basic statistical and factual information. Economic statistical information includes GDP, Real GDP growth rate, per capita GDP, GDP consumption by sector, poverty line, household income, unemployment, inflation rate, public debt, commodity exports and imports, exchange rates, etc. These statistics are given for only one recent year.
  • US Department of State - Country Background Notes (All countries)
    Background notes include facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations of independent states, some dependencies, and areas of special sovereignty.
  • World Development Indicators Online (All countries)
    This database by the World Bank Group contains economic, financial, and demographic statistics for 226 countries.
  • Phrasebase(Country members)
    This website provides political, communication, and economic data for all countries in Asia.
  • United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia Pacific
    This website contains fact sheets for all countries which contains information on national accounts and prices, health and education, natural resources and environment, human development index, labor force and finance.
  • Nationmaster.com
    This website contains statistical information on agriculture, crime, currency, economy, education, geography, health, industry, labor, mortality and other related topics.

  • Asia Regional Information Center
    This website contains economic reports and statistics for different countries in Asia. The reports are provided by Central Banks, Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning Agency and Statistics Office of the respective countries.
  • Global Development Finance (All countries)
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HJ 8899 .W672. The World Bank's Global Development Finance database contains more than 200 debt and financial indicators for over 130 countries. This database allows you to graph several financial indicators for various years in the same chart. Some of the indicators include total debt stocks, total debt flows, long term debt, interest payments, disbursements, debt rations, currency composition of debt, etc.

    This database by the World Bank Group contains economic, financial, and demographic statistics for 226 countries.

    The UNESCO Institute for Statistics is the statistical branch of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture. It collects statistics on education, literacy, culture and communication, and science and technology.
  • United Nations Statistical Division (Country members)
    The Statistics Division compiles statistics from many international sources and produces global updates. Information in this page includes demographic statistics such as population, birth rates, mortality, marriage, health, education, etc.
  • Population Reference Bureau (All countries)
    This page provides demographic, health, environmental, and women statistics. In addition, it has links to other statistics pages and resources.
  • City Populations (All countries)
    Population of main cities in each country in Asia.
  • Earth Trends City Data (All countries)
    PDF table that contains statistics on selected city level indicators for many countries.
  • Earth Trends Data Tables (All countries)
    PDF table that contains population, health, and human well-being statistics for many countries.
  • Earth Trends - World Resources Institute (All countries)
    This page contains mainly environmental statistics, but it is also an excellent source of demographic, business, and economic statistics. You can go to the searchable database, select the statistic you need, and then select the country or region.
  • US Census Bureau (All countries)
    Statistics on HIV/AIDS for different countries. PDF format.
  • United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Asia Pacific
    The ESCAP Population Data Sheet is issued annually by the United Nations and provides population and development indicators of countries in the Asian and Pacific region.
  • Literacy Facts and Figures in Asia and Asia Pacific
    This website provides literacy facts and figures on some countries in Asia that includes National and State/Provincial data.

    Off Campus Access

    This database gives you information on companies including history, financials, rankings, and articles when this information is available. Click on "Business and Company Resource Center" and then click on "Company." In the "state/country" search box type the name of a country and click "Search." The companies will be listed by revenue in descending order. Click on the company's name to see more information on the company.

    Off Campus Access

    This database gives you company information such as financials, competitors, business description, contact information, stock prices and charts, histories, and articles on the company when this information is available. Click on "Companies/Markets" tab. You can enter the name or the ticker symbol of the company and click "Search." To see a list of companies, click on the "Companies/Markets" tab and then click on "Company Screening" click on "Location" then select "Asian Countries Regions" and select a region and country within that region. Narrow your search by number of employees, industry, or performance. Click "Submit" and it will give you a list of companies for that country.

    This database allows you to search industry overviews for different countries. Even though it might not give you very detailed information and statistics, it is a good start to research industries in different countries. Make your selection in the "Industry" and "Geo Region" menus. In the "Document Type," select "Industry Overview."

    This website by the University of Michigan contains statistics population, economic indicators, industry, commerce, trade, education etc.
  • China's National Income 1952 - 1995
    This website contains statistical information on income and price levels, statistics of foreign exchange transactions, corporate good price indices and other statistics from 2001 - 2004.

    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HC 60 .J38. This book presents an outline of recent trends in aid discussions and of Japan's aid activities, this report focuses primarily on the period from April 1998 through March 1999. Statistical figures presented are based on information which could be acquired from Development Assistance Committee and other sources, in principle, by September 1999.
