Business International Statistics

This guide contains websites, government sites, and paid databases that have international statistical information. You may also do a subject search in the Library Catalog for categories such as economic statistics, demographic statistics, financial statistics, corporation statistics, and industry statistics. You can also search in the catalog for a specific country by putting the country name and then "statistics." For example, "mexico statistics" or "china statistics." This research guide is the most general of all the statistics guides.

General Economic Data

  • LexisNexis Academic
    Off Campus Access
    A full-text database which provides full-text access to national & international news, business, legal, and reference information, including federal & state case law, company financials, state statistics, and accounting, auditing & tax information. Includes Hoover Handbooks Reports, Disclosure and Worldscope Reports, and the S&P Standard Corporate Descriptions. All of these reports provide strategic and financial information of publicly held corporations. Go to “Academic Universe,” click on “Business,” click on “Company Financial Information” and change to desired source.
  • CIA World Factbook
    Off Campus Access. Country Profiles: Years: 2003. This resource provides statistics on geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation, military, etc. of nations around the world.
  • Economagic
    This resource provides economic statistics and states what types each government agency provides. Economagic will also disclose specifically the source for the statistics.
  • International Marketing Data and Statistics
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HA 42 .I56. This reference book is a compendium of statistical information on the countries of the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. The data is updated regularly.
  • Main Economic Indicators: OECD
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HC 10 .068. This book has economic statistics separated by country with facts such as total number of buildings constructed, commodity output, GDP, etc.
  • LABORSTA Internet
    Find international labor statistics from 1950-present at this site.
  • OECD Economic Surveys (online)
    This resource provides various economic statistics for many countries around the world.
  • World Development Indicators
    It includes more than 800 indicators for 148 countries and regional income groups, with basic indicators for an additional 62 countries.
  • Nation Master
    Nation Master compiles data from sources such as the CIA World Factbook, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Bank, World Resources Institute, UNESCO, UNICEF and OECD. It gives 4,657 statistics on agriculture, economy, crime, industry, demographics, military, sports, etc., and it provides a way to graphically compare nations.
  • Penn World Tables (University of Toronto) The Penn World Table provides purchasing power parity and national income accounts converted to international prices for 179 countries for some or all of the years 1950-2000.

  • International Direct Investment Statistics Yearbook
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HG 4583 .I58 2001. This yearbook contains geographical and sector breakdowns for direct investment flows and stocks to and from countries around the world (in the OECD area).
  • UNCTAD FDI Statistics Homepage
    This site includes FDI Statistics for United Nations participants. With a free and simple login, one can find all kinds of detailed Foreign Direct Investment statistics for various countries Exchange Rates.
  • National Trade Data Bank
    Off Campus Access
    Some information can only be accessed with a password obtained at the Mgt/Econ reference desk. Indexes 90,000 descriptive documents and statistical tables about exchange rates, U.S. trade promotion and foreign import/export policies, practices, statistics, etc.

  • U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis
    This website provides international, national, state, and local economic statistics. Such topics as GDP by industry, personal income average per state, and metropolitan areas with lowest income are some examples of the types of statistics one can find on the website.
  • United Nations Statistical Division(Country members)
    The Statistics Division compiles statistics from many international sources and produces global updates. Information in this page includes GDP, GDP per capita, by expenditure, by economic sector, etc. and GNP statistics.
  • Nation Master
    Nation Master compiles data from sources such as the CIA World Factbook, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Bank, World Resources Institute, UNESCO, UNICEF and OECD.   • Balance of Payments Statistics Yearbook
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HG 3882 .B35x vol.53. This yearbook, published by the International Monetary Fund, financial statements and information broken down by country. Information includes things like balance on goods, net errors and omissions, assets, liabilities, etc.
  • International Financial Statistics
    Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HG 3881 .I626. IFS is a standard source of statistics on all aspects of international and domestic finance. It publishes for most countries of the world, current data on exchange rates, international liquidity, international banking, money and banking, interest rates, prices, production, international transactions, government finance, and national accounts. This is published monthly.
  • Bank for International Settlements Financial Statistics
    This resource provides international banking statistics, consolidated banking statistics, and securities statistics.
  • Global Development Finance
    Off Campus Access
    The World Bank’s Global Development Finance database contains more than 200 debt and financial indicators for over 130 countries. This database allows you to graph several financial indicators for various years in the same chart. Some of the indicators include Total debt stocks, total debt flows, long-term debt, interest payments, disbursements, debt rations, currency composition of debt, etc. Also available in print at Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HJ 8899 .W672.
  • World Development Indicators Online(All countries)
    This database by the World Bank Group contains economic, financial, and demographic statistics for 226 countries.

    The International Data Base (IDB) is a computerized data bank containing statistical tables of demographic, and socio-economic data for 227 countries and areas of the world.

    NCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that is related to education in the U.S. and other nations.
  • UNESCO Institute for Statistics(Country members)
    The UNESCO Institute for Statistics is the statistical branch of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO).
    It collects statistics on education, literacy, culture and communication, and science and technology.Once you access the webpage, you will see a section on the left panel called “statistics.” From this section you can access the database, statistical tables, country profiles, and fast facts.

    Population Reference Bureau is a resource for population information. Here you can browse the most comprehensive directory of population-related websites available — by organization, by region and country, or by topic within countries.

  • International Data Base (IDB)
    The International Data Base (IDB) is a computerized data bank containing statistical tables of demographic and socioeconomic data (including vital rates, infant mortality, life tables, and more) for 227 countries and areas of the world.
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
    This website contains health and health-related epidemiological and statistical information available from the World Health Organization. It includes statistics on population, diseases, HIV, nutrition, alcoholism, drugs, etc. that can be search by topic and by country.

    Online database accessed through the HBLL. This database offers information such as financial statistics, industry overview, and rankings for companies and industries. It also provides information on products. For company research click on the “company” tab. To search for companies in a specific country, type the name of the country in the “country/state” search box.
  • Yahoo! Finance Webpage
    This website provides stock and company information. Information such as the daily stock price history since a company’s IPO as well as graphs are available.

    Online database accessed through the HBLL. This database gives information on companies and markets. It gives you quotes for the past five years and allows you to graph different ticker symbols in one graph. You can also see the performance of different world markets.

  • 2001 World Trade Annual
    Available in Mgt/Econ/Gov Info HF 53 .W6 2001. It contains statistics on imports and exports by commodity for 2001—information by SITC number, quantity, value.
  • International Trade Statistics
