Doing Business in Other Countries:
- LexisNexis Academic -- Country Profiles - Write the down the name of the
country and change your source to the Walden Country Reports. These
reports include the following categories of information: key facts, introduction,
political structure, political situation, membership of international organizations,
industry, banking and finance, companies, investment, stock exchange, natural
resources, energy, agriculture, transport, communications and the media, armed
forces, education, health and welfare, geography and climate, visitors'' guide,
useful business addresses. Each of the 100-plus country reports is updated
once each year; if a significant event occurs, the report will be updated
to reflect this.
- CIA World Factbook - Released by the US Central Intelligence
Agency yearly. Data available for more than 260 countries. Includes the
map and flag, geographic, population, government, economic, communication,
transportation, military, and transnational issue information.
- Country Commercial Guides- A comprehensive look
at countries commercial environments (economical, political and market analysis).
Prepared by U.S. Department of State with the assistance of several
U.S. government agencies. Bureau of Economics and Business Affairs.
- Culturegrams
- A wealth of information about more than 165 countries,
emphasizes on the unique values, customs, and cultural assumptions of the people

- ABI/INFORM (ProQuest)- Off Campus Access.
Source for information on business and management worldwide. The database
includes citations, with abstracts to over 1000 journals and the complete
text of selected articles. About one-third of the citations are accompanied
by the full-text of the article. Coverage: 1971 - present. This databases
covers a wide range of subjects in the business and management areas,
including: accounting/auditing, banking and finance, economics, health
care, insurance, labor relations, management science and real estate,
just to name a few. Including full text articles from The Wall Street
Journal, Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times,
New York Times and many others.. Coverage: varies but generally 1988 to

- Business Source Premier (EBSCO)- Off Campus Access.
Provides full-text for nearly 2,080 scholarly business journals covering
business, management, economics, finance, banking, and accounting. Full
text back files as far back as January 1990. Updated daily.

- Business and Industry (RDS) (Gale)- "Geography Search"
provides the largest companies in a city, state or country. "Company
Name or Ticker Symbol" gathers company information from news stories
about the company, company history, company financial information, company
product information, etc.
- LexisNexis Academic- Go to Business/Company Financial
and pull down to "International Company Reports." Enter the name
of the company of interest. (The best reports are under HOOVERS, WORLDSCOPE,
and EXTEL CARDS DATABASE).

- Reference USA - International Business Directory Find in-depth company profiles on 3 million
international companies, including key executives and detailed financial
information. Great for research on large companies and their foreign parents
and subsidiaries.Selection criteria include: Business name, Executive
name, Sales volume, Company assets, Number of employees, Geography, And
more... Use basic lookups, company and industry profiles, or a variety
of search variables to find the information you need on international
companies and executives
- LexisNexis Academic- Click Business, then Company
Financial, type in company name, select "International Companies"
from the pull down menu, select Date from the pull down menu, then click

- Business & Company Resource Center (Gale)
Off Campus Access. Indexes public and private company data,
including contact names, address and telephone numbers, total employees, sales
volume and business descriptions. Covers more than 11,000 U.S. & international
companies and 53 industries. To find International Industry Information, click
Industry and enter a description of your industry. For example "leather",
a list containing related industries to the keyword used will appear, choose
the one that is closer to your industry. For example "2386 Leather and Sheep-Lined
Clothing" , look trough the results. For marketing information, click the
green icon "Market research" a list containing market research done for this
specific product in many different countries will appear, pick one!
Product Information:
- PROMT (Gale)
Predicast Overview of Markets and Technology. Use this
database to research companies, the products and technologies they produce,
and the markets in which they compete. Includes summaries and full text from
nearly 1,000 business and trade journals, industry newsletters, newspapers,
market research studies, news releases, and investment and brokerage firm
reports.
- Export
America
Look for "Classifying Your Product for Export" in the January 2003 issue .
Contains a guide to locating your product under the Harmonized System.
- Schedule B Export Codes
"One of the first things you will need before
you export is a Schedule B number for your product, which will be put on your
Shipper's Export Declaration. The Trade Information Center can help you research
that number, or you can contact the U.S. Census Bureau (http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/schedules/b)
to locate the number. You also will be able to find your product's Harmonized
System number there. This is used worldwide to classify products and determine
local duty rates. With this number, you can then research the duty rates that
your buyers will pay when importing your products. Depending on the duty,
your products might or might not be competitive in a particular market."
