Searching the Harold B. Lee Library Website for Juvenile Literature

Library Catalog

Author or Title Searches

1. Select Find Books. Select Advanced Keyword Search.
2. Select author search. Enter author's or illustrator's surname first.
3. Select subject search when looking for books about an author or illustrators.
4. Select title search. Enter first word(s) of title, omitting initial articles.

Juvenile Books

1. Select Advanced Keyword Search.
2. Enter the keyword, author, title, subject that you wish to search in the appropriate search box(es). Use the left pull-down boxes to select the type of search you wish.
3. To search the basic juvenile collection, omitting Big Books, Locked Case materials and Quartos, scroll down to Location and select Juvenile Collection. Click on Search.
4. To search all juvenile books, select AND from the right pull-down box and enter the word juvenile in the next box as a subject. If you want to search only fiction, enter the phrase juvenile fiction. To search all other juvenile books including non-fiction, enter the phrase juvenile literature. Click on Search.

Find Articles, Databases and Websites

1. Select Find Articles and then choose Juvenile Literature as the subject.
2. If you know the database you wish to search, select Find Databases.

• Middle Search Plus (EBSCO) is designed for middle and junior high school students and provides full text articles from more than 100 magazines.

• YALSA Booklist and Book Awards (American Library Association) provides lists of 10 annual lists selected by the Young Adult Library Services Association
• International Reading Association includes the annual Young Adults? and Teachers? Choices.
• Web English Teacher (Carla Beard) is an award-winning site filled with resources for teaching AP, critical thinking, grammar and usage, vocabulary, literature, and more.
• Teenreads.com provides book and movie reviews, authors' biographies and interviews, reading lists and more.
• Teenspace @ The Internet Public Library provides information of gemeranl interest for teens including homework and research help.
• Children's Book and Play Review (Brigham Young University) includes books and play reviews, booklists, and articles

Biography

• Literature Resource Center and Biography Reference Bank are starting points for finding information about authors of children's and young adult book. More complete information will be available for most authors and illustrators in the print title, Something About the Author.

Other

• The ALAN Review is the official journal of the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents with articles and reviews.
• Magill's on Literature Plus and includes plot summaries, character analysis, and author's biographical information for approximate 600 juvenile literature titles.
