Books

The Library Catalog provides access to books, exhibition catalogues, and periodical titles. To find information about graphic art and commercial art, use the suggested subject headings below. To find books written by designers or illustrators, use their names as authors searches.

If you don't find enough books on your topic in the Lee Library Catalog, you can search catalogs of other libraries, and order books online, free of charge, from the Interlibrary Loan Services. Search the Worldcat database and order books or articles online.

LOCATION & CALL NUMBERS

Books and annuals are located in the regular book stacks of the library, with additional oversized materials in a separate "Quarto/Folio" area in each floor. Items designated as "Locked Case" can be requested at the Interlibrary Loan Office (level 3). All periodicals are located on level 2.

Graphic arts materials are catalogued in various Library of Congress call numbers. Following is a list of basic call number areas with materials related to graphic arts:

SUBJECT HEADINGS

A lot of graphic arts materials have broad subject headings such as: graphic arts, commercial art, and illustration. However, you can also use specific keywords such as typography, promotion, marketing, posters, business cards, letterheads, awards, logos, t-shirt, menu, pamphlet, etc.

Articles in Magazines or Journals

Magazines and journals are housed in the Periodicals Room (level 2), but annuals are shelved with books in the stacks. Only titles of journals are indexed in the Library Catalog.

To look for articles,YOU MUST SEARCH IN A PERIODICAL INDEX (see subject A-Z list, Graphic Design, resource.s) You might find a full-text version of the article, or just a citation to articles. Look up the journal title in Journal Finder, or in the Library Catalog to get the call number for the journal you need.
